Microsoft
Windows Server 2008 R2
Microsoft has announced that Windows Server 2008 R2 will have DNSSEC
support. Micosoft
has set up a webpage describing the new DNSSEC features in Windows
Server 2008, To use these new features, users will have to
upgrade to 2008 R2. Currently, DNSSEC support only exists for
static zones, which means features such as dynamic update would not be
available in this release.
Users wishing to review the latest version of Windows Server 2008
should download the evaluation
copy here. Microsoft has also developed a
support guide on DNSSEC deployment on Server 2008 R2.
How is Microsoft being used
on the SNIP?
A beta version (and later, an evaluation copy) of Microsoft
Server 2008 R2 has been used in the SNIP lab, but is not currently
being used to serve or secondary any SNIP zone. It has been used to host test
domains delegated from the .gov TLD and has passed all relevant tests.
MS Windows Server 2008 R2 can meet the relevant checklist items in NIST SP 800-81r1. A brief table of
checklist items and which feature in Windows can be used to meet the checklist item
is available.
Questions or comments should be sent to SNIP admins.
